The Sullivan Centre promotes daily reading sessions through personalised learning and guided reading tasks.
Reading is a lifelong skill and features in all aspects of the curriculum, we encourage pupils to take pleasure in reading and engage with functional reading opportunities.
Upon admission to the Sullivan Centre Hospital Education Service, all pupils are assessed using the online English and Maths functional skills programme BKSB which provides a performance indicator in terms of current levels of attainment in addition to personalised targets identifying areas of development. Individual targets for progress are recorded on a pupil's 360 profile and are monitored and reviewed throughout a child's placement.
Pupils that are identified as requiring additional support in reading will receive targeted intervention. We use the recognised synthetic phonics scheme, Read, Write, Inc as the basis for our teaching in addition to the reading of common sight words.
If you are concerned about any aspect of your child's learning or development, please do not hesitate in contacting your child's class teacher Tel: 01482 303300.
